A Busy Start to 2018 – Dr. Anna Morrison
Happy New Year! The beginning of 2018 brought with it my first anniversary at AQHA. When I look back at what we accomplished in 2017, I am immensely proud of the passion and dedication of our international membership and their representatives on the International Committee. As we look forward to 2018, we are not slowing down!
In this newsletter you will find information about programs designed to honor and support our international membership, as well as information about the upcoming AQHA Convention. The AQHA Convention provides opportunities for you, our international members, to share your thoughts and concerns with AQHA, and to impact AQHA’s rules and procedures. As a member-driven organization, we work to support you, so take the opportunity to make sure your voice is heard.
Together, we can work to create a vibrant and healthy global horse community!

International Best Remuda Applications Due March 1, 2018
In 1992 AQHA established the Best Remuda Award to honor the contributions that ranch horses have made to the heritage of the American Quarter Horse Association and our industry. Since then, 23 ranches have been recognized with the award.
This year, international ranches will have the opportunity to apply for the newly established International Best Remuda Award. Any ranch that is a member of AQHA and has five or more registered American Quarter Horse mares used to produce horses for ranch work is eligible to apply for this award. Applications for the International Best Remuda Award are due March 1, 2018.

AQHA Convention – March 2-5, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida
AQHA Convention is a time to gather as AQHA members to discuss important issues, make decisions about the future of the Association, and connect with fellow horsemen from around the world. You won’t want to miss the fun evening activities, including the “Foundation in Paradise” party featuring the Bellamy Brothers, as well as the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
This year, we will be discussing a number of important issues in the International Committee. The International Committee meetings are open, and any AQHA member is welcome to attend. The committee agenda, which will be available in the AQHA website in the coming weeks, details the items that the International Committee will be addressing. International Hospitality at the 2018 Lucas Oil World Championship Show
We are excited to introduce a new international lounge that will be featured for the first time at the 2018 AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City, OK. This inviting lounge will be available for international members to come relax on our couches and grab a coffee, register for city excursions, and collect recreation and dining information to help you make the most of your AQHA World Show experience.
Where this lounge will be located on the show grounds is still undecided – we want to ask you where you’d like to see this lounge!
Please email international@aqha.org by March 1, 2018 with your answer to this question: Should the lounge be located in the Trade Show or inside the Super Barn?
Enhanced Educational Opportunities for International Affiliates and Members
One of the longest running AQHA international programs has received a makeover aimed at making it more accessible to the majority of our international affiliates and members. In order to leverage available funding to provide as many educational opportunities to as many affiliates and member groups as possible via a model that is flexible enough to meet the needs of various affiliates/countries, the program formerly known as AQHA International Horsemanship Camps has been rebranded as the AQHA International Education Marketplace.
Based on a recommendation by the International Educational Task Force, the Executive Committee approved the development of the AQHA International Education Marketplace, which will make existing educational program funds available to educational seminar hosts via grant application. Grants ranging from $2,500-$5,000 per seminar will be awarded to educational seminar hosts. Seminar hosts will select an AQHA Professional Horseman, trainer, judge, university group or other industry professional to implement the seminar, or they may request that AQHA assign a clinician that meets the seminar needs. Seminar hosts will have the opportunity to tailor content based on seminar participant skill level, type of seminar (hands on/lecture), and desired topics.
Grant applications will be accepted throughout the calendar year. If you have an interest in hosting an AQHA educational seminar, please complete the grant application found here and submit it to international@aqha.org
